The KPA Wastewater Treatment System was turned over to the USACE and officially opened by COL Magness Commander of AED North. The project being the first of its kind was designed and built by Omran Holding Group. Designed for a total population of 4,500 people the facility has the capacity to treat 650m3 of influent daily.

The project was completed by a team of Afghan designers, engineers and technicians and was one of the most challenging projects ever undertaken by Omran. COL Magness praised Omran’s professionalism and said, “Before today the thinking was the Afghan Companies can only build small projects, they can build walls or can do CMU work but can’t handle complex projects. Today Omran has proven that Afghan Companies can handle the most complex projects in Afghanistan and deliver admirably. I congratulate Omran on their outstanding performance.”

As a tribute to the project execution team, Mahmoud Baligh OHG’s General Manager said, “Omran’s policy dictates that we develop local capacities and we ensured that the bulk of the work on this project was performed by OHG itself. We pride at having the most proficient all Afghan design and construction team who worked day and night to complete this project as per international standards and provided a WWTP that is the first of its kind in Afghanistan.”
